International transportation of oversized equipment from Poland to Kazakhstan (door-to-door, 62 tons, RO-RO + rail)

Tonight, I’m excited to share the successful completion of a significant project. The project involved transporting a main machine measuring 14900x3400x3600 mm and weighing 62000 kg, along with dismounted appliances, from Gdynia, PL to Almaty, KZ. This journey can be described as a door-to-door transfer from one construction site to another.

The project began with a check for sanctions compliance regarding transit via RU, which was successfully cleared. Subsequently, the optimal transport route was determined. The main machine was ferried as a self-propelled unit via RO-RO from the port in Gdynia to a Baltic Sea port, while the appliances were transported by road as general cargo. Following this, all components were consolidated onto a rail platforms for transit to the final destination, with the entire transit time taking 57 days.

Several challenges were faced and effectively resolved during the project:

  • Export customs procedures were conducted in a different country due to the machine’s oversized dimensions, preventing direct access to the customs office during departure.
  • Collaboration with a third-party entity was necessary for machine operation as the manual was provided properly.
  • Adjustments to cargo lashing and positioning on the rail platform were implemented due to discrepancies between actual dimensions and the information in the product brochure.

Underlining said above, challenges were resolved successfully and transportation process was done smooth and efficiently.
